This school year, our students from the Hospitality Entrepreneurship Manager course of the Nilda Pinto SBO have had the opportunity to take classes on hospitality once a week at the Parasasa learning hotel in collaboration with ROC Mondriaan. The purpose of these lessons is to train students to become skilled specialists ready to begin a career in the hospitality and tourism industry.
The days were structured with morning theoretical lessons focused on key skills in the tourism and hospitality sector, and in the afternoons the students took field trips to different companies in this sector to gain practical experience.
Through interactive lessons, students gained in-depth knowledge of hospitality, gastronomy, serving and much more. These fieldtrips gave students the opportunity to visit businesses and locations they would not otherwise easily visit, and they got to take a behind-the-scenes look at different restaurants, hotels, suppliers and more. This opened their eyes to the opportunities within the hospitality industry in Curaçao. The fieldtrips connected directly to the theory lessons and formed a nice bridge between theory and practice.
We look forward to further cooperation and to the next school year.
“The classes at the leather hotel were very nice. You learn new things and can experience them right away. What stayed with me from everything I learned was learning about the ‘Unique Selling Points’ of the different companies we visited.” – student S. Martina
“In the learning hotel classes, we learned about numerous topics, such as reception work, wine, beer, coffee and tea. In addition, we improved our formal communication skills with guests and learned the phonetic alphabet. We also had the opportunity to visit different hotels and observe back office operations.” – student T. Parsram
